Summer, Near Christchurch

Another fantastic day in and around Christchurch, New Zealand.

Another fantastic day in and around Christchurch, New Zealand. After breakfast (Burger King - with strawberry jam unfortunately on my breakfast sandwich), we walked a couple of miles through the Park and down Riccarton Road to a Saturday Market in a public park. The Park had a historic home and a "bush." A bush is apparently a natural forested area, surrounded by a predator-proof fence - interesting. At the market we purchased sandwiches for lunch and bagles for tomorrow's breakfast, plus some cheeries. We then decided to take a bus from the Riccarton area to Summer, an coastal city (see above). We sat on benches over looking the ocean and had lunch. Pied oystercatchers were everywhere. Got on the retur bus ($4 rt) and returned to Christchurch and, after looking for days, found an information center to help us book our activities after our upcoming bike tour through the wine country. Eartha, originally from Hong Kong, worked with us for 1 1/2 hours and we got it done. After all that we needed a beer and found an outdoor pub across from the Art Museum. Back in the hotel we made a few more plans by internet and then went to dinner at Strawberry Faire, two blocks from our hotel. A bride and groom were celebrating with friends and family - lots of fun to watch. Now back at our lodging and hoping to get some "regular" sleep.
