The Dunes

Left the Sossusvlei Desert Lodge early so we could arrive at the Namib Naukluft National Park by sunrise. This area has some of the highest free-standing sand dunes in the world. After a short walk in the desert where we learned about animal and plant adaptation to this harsh environment (scats and tracks!), we reachd the Sossusvlei Pan where there was access to some dunes. We walked up and then climbed down the shear side of the dunes. Shoes were filled with a cup of sand when we got back to the vehicle. Our socks and feet were a beautiful red color. Jimmy, our guide, cooked us a brunch following our adventure in the dunes.
